BMX track officially opened!

The town’s first BMX track was officially opened last week with demos and bike maintenance advice for keen BMXers.

The £75,000 inclusive track is one of just seven in the South East and was opened on Tuesday June 7 with a speech from the Mayor Cllr Carol Eade.

Councillor Lenny Walker, Cabinet member for Leisure and Culture said: “This is an excellent piece of work by Community Services staff, residents and Members, and is a great addition to the town. It will hopefully attract users from far and wide and increase Crawley’s profile too.

“The most pleasing aspect about this project is that it’s designed with disabled users in mind and I really look forward to seeing everyone make the most of this fantastic new facility.”

The event saw Wheels for All adapted cycles ready for trying out; an impressive demo by Tony Fleming of Dirt Works BMX, the 40+ world champion 2008; and bike maintenance advice from Sibot BMX Store. 

Funding for the track, which is next to Cherry Lane Adventure Playground, was awarded to Crawley Borough Council from West Sussex County Council’s Aiming High for Disabled Children programme.

UPG Rehearsal – feat Malik Diouf

The UPG team have been in town recently, rehearsing for their brand new show! As well as Buster, Miranda, Sasha and Kurt, Malik Diouf from Yamakasi / Gravity style is also performing.

Naming Comp Judging!

Thank you to everyone who submitted names for the features on the rad new Inclusive BMX Track in Crawley (see some here). All entries are being reviewed by our Judging panel and winners will be notified by Friday 17th June!

We will arrange for the winners DC Prizes to be sent out in the post and they will posted up on crawleyextreme.com next week! Official signage will be unveiled at our next BMX event later this summer!

Crawley BMX Track Opening!

A massive thank you to those involved with the BMX opening on Tuesday. This was a real team effort and thanks go out to all involved in supporting a successful opening.

 

May Half-Term Skateboarding Course

The May half-term Intermediate Skateboarding course was a great success! we had 4 fabulous days of sunshine and the young skaters were really on it!

Every one could drop in by the end of the week and had learned new tricks and stunts….STOKED!

BMX Track finishing works

We are delighted that the new BMX track is already proving hugely popular but finishing touches are now being made so Crawley Borough Council is urging riders to exercise caution if they are using the site this week.

The builders need to be able to go about their jobs with the minimum of disruption so if you are asked not to ride please don’t. The official opening takes place on June 7th, after which all of the fences will be removed.

Also PLEASE DON’T LITTER and show some respect for your new track. The bins are on there way!

Crawley BMX Track Official Opening!

The Offcial Opening of the new BMX Track will be taking place on Tuesday 7th June, 6-8pm! The event will include:

• Wheels For All adapted cycles for try outs!
• Demo by Tony Fleming of Dirt works BMX,  40+ World champion 2008
• Sibot BMX store in attendance offering bike maintenance advice, bringing some team riders and range of Haro bikes.
• Sibot will also selling bike raffle tickets for one lucky person to win a Haro Race Bike!

Junior Skateboard Course Footage

The first set of Junior Skateboard Courses have just finished and we have some short footage of what went down in the Intermediate session on Saturday.

After the session a few participants and Young Skatepark Leaders went down to Henfield Skatepark for a shred. See what went down!

Sorry to those who did not get a place. Crawley Borough Council and the Crawley Freestyle Association are working together to try and organise some more coaching workshops during the summer holidays. Please check back here for updates!
